Freek brought an interesting point about Nepali flag. I think Mandales have given a bad name to Nepali flag and so people hesitate to carry them. Also, I think Nepalis do not have very close association with our National flag or national song since their symbolism is heavy on monarchy and do not represent people. For example, symbolism of Nepali flag is heavy on Chandra, Surya - represent monarchy is eternal and shape is associated with Hindu flags. There is nothing in the flage about representing Nepali people, geography, diverse ethnicities, history, achievements, or culture that make people proud and excited. Same with the national song. It does not make me excited. Just my take.
