Every successive political movement in Nepal has been about taking power away from an entrenced elite. The 1950 revolution took power away from a Kathmandu elite of Ranas, and after a short spell, power was back in the hands of a very Ktm centric Shah clan with a sprinkling of Kathmandu based Chettris and Brahmins. The 1990 revolution resulted in power being taken away from theis newer elite and transfered to other urban elites mostly from the Terai and urban centers in the mid-hills.
