Subject: Re: Lets try to support for Repulican democary in Nepal
Friends,
What I am writing is coming from my "heart", not from "dimag", so I
might be wrong. Treat it accordingly.
One of the shocking experiences of mine in the US was to see the
resilience of Nepali elites (who dominate or control major Nepali
organizations in the US and NRNA) to hang on to the institution of
monarchy even when it is fairly certain that it's over. These
monarchists who have now started to say they have given up on the King
will take it back on a drop of a hat if they ever saw it is not over
yet.
Another thing, which is also astounding is the ease with which these
monarchists have succeeded to control Nepali organizations and become
representative face of pro-democracy activism in diaspora.
A lot of us believe in their faith in democracy and treat them
accordingly. By this I am not implying that we should not. My question
is have we ever wondered about the strength of their faith in
democracy ?
These guys have more faith, trust and respect on the institution of
monarchy than on the institution of collective wisdom of ordinary,
semi-illiterate and largely backward people of Nepal. What kind of
faith in democracy is that ?
Democracy in essence is having faith, really really really having
faith, in the collective wisdom and power of the people. Did you
notice how "people" was always missing from their imagination and they
were sure it is them who write the fate of Nepal by their suggestions
to the monarch to this and that for the country ?
Did you notice their theory about republic Nepal ? Dr. .....'s theory
is that Nepal is becoming a republic because King Gyanendra missed to
say one nice word on Baishak 1 gatey. From his imagination, all
hundreds of otherwise undeniable factors like, demystification of the
royal palace by the massacre, Gyanendra as a suspect in eyes of common
people, Asoj kanda, Magh 19, Maoist's determination to finish off the
monarchy, popular support to the Maoists' proposal to end the
insurgency for a democratic republic, and most bizarre of all, the
ongoing andolan, were all missing.
I tell you, these guys will never miss a chance to rescue monarchy if
there is ever one.
Did you notice how these guys always suppressed the word, idea and
thought of 'republic' during entire 4 years of pro-democracy activism
of diaspora ?
Let them keep doing it as long as they want and they can afford.
Nepal shall be republic without support from these fake and
opportunist "democrats".
Why should we rescue NRNA and whichever are representating the
diaspora at this hour ?
Let the monarchist rule them. Let's see the tamasha of their overnight
transformation into staunch democratic republicans.
I am sorry for my frustrating ramblings, particularly at a time when
we are seeing a new dawn of true democracy in Nepal for the first time
in it's entire history.
I salute to a teenager who died at the street to bring us democracy
successfully. I despise Professors, doctors, CEOs, who wasted our
time, diverted our precious attention to silly middle ground,
discouraged and disrespected the popular miovement and yet are going
to claim that they are great freedom fighters for democracy Nepal.
When I imagine a 14 year old teenager with a brick in his hand, I cry.
This boy did it for us. Degree-dhari professors misled and failed us.
