1) Being Less Than Honest After being complimented on his choice of college, the candidate replied, "I'm glad that got your attention, I didn't really go there." Another interviewee mentioned his time in prison after indicating on the application that he had never been arrested. Then there was candidate who was caught stealing when the interviewer left the room. 2) Being Too Honest When asked why he wanted to work for the company, one applicant said he was only there because his mother wanted him to get a job. He was 37. In response to the old standby "What do you see yourself doing five years from now?" another candidate cheerily replied, "I try not to think that far ahead; who knows? I may be hit by a bus!" Then there was the woman who cut right to the chase. She was flown to Minneapolis for an interview and was met at the airport by a company representative whom she immediately told, "It's far too cold to live and work in this city;" and flew home before even meeting with the hiring manager. 3) Arriving "Hungry" A candidate with an MBA was out to lunch for a final interview with the managing partner. He spilled soup on his tie then proceeded to lick the soup off his tie. And which is worse? The applicant who asked the hiring manager to hurry up because he wanted to have lunch or the one who pulled out a sandwich and began eating? 4) Having a Wardrobe Malfunction People have boldly shown up in tube tops, mini-skirts and ripped t-shirts with suggestive slogans. Then there are those who are less decisive about what they wear: Namely the woman who entered the lobby, pulled two pairs of shoes out of her bag and asked the receptionist which pair she preferred; and the balding candidate who abruptly excused himself and returned a few minutes later wearing a hair piece. 5) Sorry, Wrong Number A surprising number of applicants take calls on their cell phones during their interview. Others make them. One candidate called his parents after the first few questions to tell them "things are going great." Another called her therapist for advice on how to answer a question. 6) Acting Excessively Nervous Corporate recruiters report candidates falling, fainting or excusing themselves and never coming back. 7) Being Overly Relaxed Others report behavior on the opposite end of the spectrum, such as the job seeker who stretched out on the floor to fill out the job application and the candidate who actually dozed off while the hiring manager was speaking. 8)Feeling Way Too Confident And finally, one candidate said he was so qualified that if he didn't get the job it would prove that the company's management was incompetent.
