Same old Nepali thought process. Naive people who think more from their heart and past "glory" as opposed to with their brain and confronting today's reality. Guys, think outside the box a little bit. The issue is not India; the issue is power and spheres of influence. India or whoever will always act out of self interest, because it is an inherent nature in people and a country is composed of people. The whole is not separate from the parts. The US manipulates many countries. In-fact the American influence over UN decision making power has been well documented over the years. The struggle over the Haves and the Have nots is classic human evolutionary paradigm. If you look at things at a microcosmic level, you will see that individuals and societies are confronted with the same challenges regarding power distribution, struggle to survive and compete. In your work field, you will have to impress your seniors and flatter them to move up, to get good jobs you will have to know people; to push policy forward you will have to know people, but in the long run there has to be a sense of unity in philosophy and synergy for a nation to progress. India took advantage of the infrastructure built by the Brits, and the atrocities they experienced during their colonial era fueled their fire to develop, in- fact it still fuels them. Nepal instead was too geographically inconvenient for the Brits to have any economic benefits so they accepted defeat without much resistance. We take pride in this, but in reality our false pride and sense of security has been our undoing. A nation is transcended by its leaders and politicians. They have failed at a very basic ideological level of navigating the country with a sense of camaraderie and nationalism in spite of political differences. The governing bodies’ agendas were more about personal incentives and rewards as opposed to the well being of the masses. This corrupt vision encompassed by a ruthless, incomprehensible autocratic feudal monarchy that coerced the masses into worshiping it as a demigod and apparently standing ready in hindsight to take over the country is what has facilitated the disintegration of Nepal. This "thuggish" approach to governing has trickled down on the general public and no one in Nepal wants to be there anymore. Nepal is not a puppet to India and if it is, that has more to do with its weaknesses rather than India's strengths. Until today, there are no signs of how those weaknesses will be addressed, how stability will be brought about, how 70 something year old men will come to a compromise and look beyond their petty personal differences and "filling my pocket" attitudes. Nepal couldn't strengthen itself because it doesn't understand the basics of capitalism and has no intellectual capacity at the governing level to negotiate things to bring it to its favor and create economic advantage. Physically it is at an economic disadvantage, but their is a serious deprivation in intellectual property in Nepal. Thus don't blame India, blame yourself and human Nature.
