NEW DELHI: Princess Devyani Rana, whose name generated headlines in the bloody palace killings in Nepal five years ago, may have found a groom. The Nepal beauty is likely to wed HRD minister Arjun Singh’s grandson Ashwarya Singh. The family remains tight-lipped but sources close to the Singhs confirmed that nuptial negotiations are on and wedding bells could be in the offing. When contacted, Ashwarya Singh’s mother, Bina Singh, said, "I would not like to comment till everything is formalised." The how-when-where is still a subject of intense speculation even as political and social circles are abuzz with news of what could be arguably one of the biggest events on Delhi’s social calender. Devyani belongs to the Rana clan that ruled Nepal till 1951. Her father, Pashupati Shamsher Rana, is an influential politician with his faction of the Rashtriya Prajatantrik Party opposed to the King. She was the longtime girlfriend of Crown Prince Dipendra of Nepal. It is rumoured that opposition to the couple’s marriage plans by Dipendra’s parents triggered the massacre of the royal family in 2001. An enraged Dipendra allegedly killed his family before shooting himself. SOURCE: WWW.TIMESOFINDIA.COM
