Why should someone put a “Dhaka Topi” to celebrate the New Year? I think the recommendation of “dhaka topi” is a strategy to sell some “stale topis” that are laying down on the basement of some wanna-be a businessman’s house. Besides, the “dhaka topi” doesn’t represent an honest and naïve Nepali citizen; it usually reminds me of a crooked, wicked and corrupted politician. Dhaka topi also demotes the look and personality of a person. I always think our Royal-Lads look more dashing when they are without the Dhaka topi. Last but not least, why “Dhaka Topi” is called “Dhaka Topi”? Why it is not called “Nepali Topi” if it is so precious to us? Doesn’t “Dhaka” belong to Bangladesh? Therefore, one should think deeply enough before being so much proud about it and mandating its use in Nepalese gatherings.
