Just a thought. Though indians are selling vegetables in KTM, while nepalese, though being customers, have to speak Hindi. Do the indian counterparts in Delhi speak with the "bahadur" watchmen in Nepalese? The vegetable vendors should be the one speaking "tuteko-phuteko" Nepali rather than us trying to speak Hindi. Being able to speak Hindi should be an asset, but shouldn't be a necessity. Our neighbors in Bangladesh, though got help from India to establish their motherland, though know Hindi well, never ever converse with Indians in Hindi. Well they are proud of their Bangla tongue and have a universal laguage called "English" to speak to foreigners. Our Nepalese friends in Darjeeling, Assam are so much proud of Nepali language that they celebrate "Bhanubhakta jayanti" more gallantly than in KTM. We should find ourselves intelligent to know a foreign language, but shouldn't use it as our identity. But after seeing all the things going on in Nepal, when half of the politicians think India is their home, prefer indian attire to Nepalese, what can we expect. To learn more languages is always beneficial and intelligent but to use it over our own mother tongue is preposterous.
