UN condemns explosions in Damak WFP office The United Nations (UN) has condemned the explosions carried out by the Maoists in the premises of the World Food Programme (WFP) sub-office in Damak, Jhapa district on Thursday. "The UN strongly condemns such attack which violates international humanitarian law and the basic operating guidelines," a press statement issued by the UN Information Centre, Kathmandu, said. The statement also said that the UN office in Damak will remain closed pending an investigation of the attack. The UN works throughout Nepal to address the needs of the civilian population. In the Damak area, the UN provides protection and assistance consisting of food, shelter, health and other material assistance to over 105,000 Bhutanese refugees in camps in the Jhapa and Morang districts in eastern Nepal through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The Maoists exploded two socket bombs at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the premises of the WFP sub-office in Damak. The explosion caused minor damages to the building. source: http://www.kantipuronline.com/
