living cost in Canada?

The most expensive cities are: 1. Toronto. 2. Vancouver 3. the rest. If you want to come to Canada, Calgary's the best place to be. Maximum jobs avalability, living cost substantially lower, lower taxes than other provinces(there's dual taxation, there's federal and then there's provincial which is a percentage of the total federal tax you pay). But there's a downside to it. SNOW AND COLD WEATHER! Calgary's one of those cities where the weather cannot be predicted easily. But there's a good thing about that too. There's a warm wind called chinook that comes in after a cold perdiod (usually couple days to a week) and makes things really warm. Unlike the east, i.e. Toronto, Montreal, etc where if it does get cold, its NASTY COLD FOR WEEKS!! However, if you wanna live in a place where the weather is awesome, goto Vancouver. The living cost there is much higher than Calgary. For a single person you may find paying almost twice for a two bedroom apartment than you would in Calgary. Toronto's way too poluted but most high paying jobs are there. But the second highest number of corporate head offices in Canada is in Calgary. With respect to Regina, Winnipeg's capital, let me just say another name for Winnipeg that's popular here is WINTERPEG. I wouldn't settle there. To live in Canada means you'll need a car. Because in terms of area, Calgary is 789 square kilometers. Toronto is only 629 squarre kilometers. So add the cost of a car. Food costs I'd estimate at about $150 for a single person, $200 for two. Cost of housing in Toronto: $900 per one bedroom apartment, about $600 in Calgary and about $900 in Vancouver. Gatelephone and internet are about $75. So per month, you're looking at about $1900 per person if you live in a nice one bedroom apartment located in a good place with access to transportation (if you dont buy a car). Buy a car and expect to pay extra $100 on gas and $200 on insurance. But calgary's transportation is good. so is toronto's so you dont really need a car. Health costs are about $25-$45 a month. So doctor is paid for. Medicine most good employers will have a good health plan. If you're coming with family, expect to pay about $1800-$2000 for a family of 3. thats the minimum. but dont worry. government subsidizes low income families. Don't know if you fall under that. hope that helps
