NEPAL NEEDS DEMOCRACY LIKE A FISH NEEDS A BICYCLE

Being a resident of the great North American Continent, I have heard numerous theories on what Nepal needs at its current desperate state. The common sentiment being echoed among Nepalese residing here and even foreigners is that Nepal should dethrone the Monarchy and restore Democracy immediately. Democracy is what Nepal needs. I just got back from a month long trip to Nepal and I'll tell ya what.."Nepal needs Democracy as much as a Fish needs a Bicycle right now" There is only one thing that can describe Nepal. This coveted democracy, during its tenure of over a decade has done absolutely nothing towards the country's development. For every country that wants to progress and further strengthen its economic condition, it all begins and ends with one word. INFRASTRUCTURE. Your'e tellin me that for over ten years of ruling the country and shufflling in and out of political regimes, the government didn't even manage to build a single decent road? even in Kathmandu? I mean there are no Roads in Nepal. Roads, the building block of a countries physical structure have ceased to exist because the external financing put in to help build infrastructure were pocketed by our beloved bureaucrats, (our current missionaries to restore democracy) to fund their marvelous bungalows and villas which by the way are better than some of the houses in Long Island, New York. Kathmandu is filled with Nepotism and Personalism, severly lacking any sense of Patriotism. It is enough to dismay over Nepal's daily retrogression, now, on top of that we have to deal with a bunch of ignorant Non Resident Nepalis, being pundits of democracy, creating a circus infront of the U.N. Democracy is an academic phenomenon. It works and makes sense to people who are fundamentally and academically sound. Nepal's reality is that "old man in the farms somewhere in Jumla and Rolpa whose only desire is to return home from the fields safely to his wife and kids after a laborious day, so he can have one meal and sleep in peace." The rural and unfortunately uneducated majority of Nepal only wants to eat its meal and get some rest, without waking up in the morning hearing the loss of a certain family member. Give them that. Don't just preach them the virtues of democracy. Give them Peace. Let them LIVE. Stop the Killing! We will worry about democracy and the multi party system later. After they are done calculating the amount of losses incurred by fraudulent activities of the Government across the board.
