I am a complete novice in this field, however a casual listener/reader of ghazals, but not aware of the literature of ghazal writing. First off a very trivial question tor the experts. Is there any difference between sher and ghazal. As far as I know, ghazal is a collection of number of shers that makes it more like a song. Please correct me if I am wrong. Secondly, how is a ghazal different from a poem? My guess is that a poem is more flexible in a sense that it does not necessarily have to be in accordance with the rules that a ghazal writer needs to obey while writing a ghazal. Again correct me if I am wrong. Just curious.
