I think USA is no more racist than any country in the world and is certainly more progressive on race matters than Europe is. Europe (especially France, Scandinavia, and Germany) has not even begun to address racism in its soil, let alone acknowledge its existence. The thing is Europe prefers to brush race issues, if any, under the carpet of broad "immigration issues" [subsumes them, that is] and pretend the former doesn't even exist. A smart cover-up strategy indeed! Having said that, methinks tallying the frequencies of isolated 'race-related' riots or incidence of race-related violence in any country and using that as a basis for cross-country (or cross-regional) comparison is a poor measure of the relative prevalence of racism. Methinks, for lack of a suitable index, it may be more apt to look at the prospects for upward mobility of racial groups instead. To take a much-cited example, Afro Americans such as Colin Powell and Condelezza Rice, and even Hispanics and Asians can aspire to the HIGHEST PUBLIC OFFICE of the land and actually get there. Can any one give me at least one high-profile counterpart example from Europe? Sauravojha, if upward mobility is what you want, I would tend to think that your odds are much better in USA in general than in Europe. My two cents!
