Suspect arrested in store clerk's slaying By NATHANIEL JONESStar-Telegram Staff Writer Arlington police have arrested one suspect in connection with Tuesday’s killing of a store clerk during an attempted robbery and charged him with capital murder. Jared Birmingham, 21, was escorted out of a north Arlington apartment about noon Friday. Birmingham limped out of the second-floor apartment in the 2500 block of Country Ridge Lane. Police say they believe he injured his left foot in the robbery. Shekhar Regmi, 20, of Irving, a Nepalese immigrant, was shot once in the back of the head late Tuesday by one of two masked men who held up the Fina Mart at 2005 E. Copeland Road near Six Flags Over Texas, police said. A warrant has been issued for two other suspects — a second man in the store and a third who apparently drove the getaway car, Detective Kyle Dishko said Friday. Birmingham was the taller suspect in video images shown on the Star-Telegram online edition this week, police said. Investigators say they believe he fired the fatal shot. Regmi worked part-time at the store. He was studying engineering at North Lake College. About 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, two men — one about 5-feet-8, and the other about 6 feet — walked into the store as Regmi was stocking in a back room and a second clerk was sitting below the counter. As soon as the men entered the store, the other clerk went to the rear of the store and hid in a cooler, police have said. For an unknown reason, the taller man shot Regmi, Dishko said. Both suspects ran from the store. Police say they believe that no cash was taken. The suspect who drove the getaway car contacted police after bad feelings about the incident, Dishko said. Bond for Birmingham has been set at $250,000. Link to web: http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/local/13474021.htm
