Bandhs are atrocious. It cripples the businesses. People can't go to work, nor can they make their daily wage. It basically makes life difficult for the common people. Indeed bandhs should be avoided, if at all possible. Furthermore, it seems there are far too many bandhs in Nepal. BUT, what other methods are there to tighten the screws on this dictator and his stooges? Violence is already being used by Maoists, and that is not the way to go, at least for the legitimate parties. So, it seems bandhs, however minimally effective they may be, exist because there are no alternatives. This is what happens when the Royal Dictator rules the country. King G and his Royalist cabal do not have common Nepalis interest as #1 priority in their heart. For them, their own dynasty's survival is first and foremost in the agenda. Second comes their own feudal prosperity. Actual development of Nepal and well being of Nepalis come as distant afterthought. Royalists may cry and scream, "How can you say that? How do you know this King is not a benevolent one? Nepalis are not ready for democracy. Party Leaders are corrupt, why hand them over the country?" Well, here are my responses: (a) I can say that because any intelligent Nepali with an ounce of self respect can see where Nepal is in the global arena. Shah dynasty has been ruling our country for past some 250 years. If the company stays in bankruptcy for centuries, it is time to change the CEO. (b) This king is not benevolent, nor is his son, nor are his stooges. Evidence is aplenty; one does not even have to look hard. (c) The statement that Nepalis are not ready for democracy is often touted by Royalists. We are uneducated lot; they often say to validate their claim. It is a circular logic. They oppress us and keep us uneducated to not give us democracy. And then they argue that we are not ready for democracy. (d) Sure, parties are corrupt. But the beauty of multi-party republic is that the voters become the boss. If one party cannot perform, we can vote them out. If people do not like their government, come election, that government gets the boot. Under republic, your son or daughter can be the next leader of Nepal. Not with Monarchy. Under it, YOUR next leader will be PARAS, whether you like it or not. Does not matter if he is an idiot, given to violence, cruel, dumbass. Under this monarchy, you are not as good as him. Your sons and daughters will never be as good as him. Think about it.
