i was around a few of the places you mention for about ten days at the end of 2003. got to amsterdam. few days there. took a train to brussels. one day there. took train to paris. few days there. back to amsterdam for new year's eve party in some city square (forgot the name). it was a blast. i think train service in europe is very good, and quite inexpensive, eh? but maybe i should not say anymore - afterall you're the one from europe!
