Thanks for posting this information. I know and have met Min Min Lama...she was a young girl with such amazing courage. The people that were instrumental in helping her were affiliated with Women's Inspiration Community (WICOM), a non-profit based in Kathmandu that was the only group that was allowed to work inside the prisons (the female prison as well as Central jail and the other male jail that was adjacent to it) to conduct health (mainly HIV/AIDS) training. I am very dissappointed that the reporter makes no mention of the tremendous work that WICom did on Min Min's behalf --it included speaking about her case at every international conference that staff attended and heavily lobbying the Nepali government to change the rules and let Min Min go. WICom had also started income generation skills classes inside the prison so that female prisoners were able to learn skills to become tailors and artists and also had art classes and a school that taught basic math, English, Science and Nepali inside the female prison for the kids that were there with their mothers. My point for this post is to make sure people know that it was not because of the work of people outisde Nepal that Min Min was released and the laws changed - it was very much a magnificient grass roots effort by some very dedicated NGO's to make sure that Min Min had some justice.
