Pashupati SJB Rana appointed Ram Prasad Neupane as the Bada Gurju. The Kumai bahuns who had previously had had a stranglehold on that position revolted vehemently by refusing to perform Sraddha(series of ceremonies performed at various times of the year and during one's lifetime as homage and salutation to one's ancestors) during the 16 days designated for that purpose which precede Nuva Ratha. Upon being appointed Bada Gurju, Ram Prasad left his cushy IT job in Silicon Valley and headed straight back to Kathmandu hoping that Pashupati may find him a suitable match for his daughter, Devyani, who's been living a life of a recluse in Switzerland until recently.
