Nepal-India border meeting resumes: BY SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT NEW DELHI, Aug 30 - With the joint preparatory committee comprising officials with the survey department, and home and foreign affairs ministries of the two neighbors meeting in the Indian capital from Monday, the Nepal-India bilateral process to resolve all long-standing boundary dispute issues has finally started. The preparatory Nepali delegation is led by Rabin Sharma with the Department of Survey, while his Indian counterpart is leading the India team of officials and experts. The meeting will pave the way for the meeting of the Joint Technical Level Boundary Committee, which is to start from Sept 1. That committee had been directed by the prime ministers of the two countries in September last year to complete the remaining mandated tasks by June 2005. A task never finalized despite the signing of the Sugauli Treaty between Nepal and the East India Company in 1815, there are at least 53 disputed sites along the 1,753-km-long Nepal-India border, which has so far remained open and porous.
