I wonder how many Sajhaites in Kathmandu joined this pro-democracy rally. Citizens? Speak Out: In colors, Sounds, and Faces - http://insn.org/?p=1751 Thousands participated in citizens? dharna for democracy and peace at Basantapur Dabli today. Today?s Basantapur event was simply stunning. The colours were amazing, the diversity was breathtaking, and the order of sound was simply astounding. Asmina and her team?s white mouth-bands, Sarita Mishra?s solo tabla, Ramesh/Rayan/Ram Krishna?s songs, Dhirendra Premharshi, Biplob Pratik, Durgalal Shrestha, Purna Baidhya, Rajani Mila, Suresh Kiran?s poems, Manoj Gajurel?s satire?these were simply unprecedented mixture topped up with sharp and succinct speeches by Dhan Kumari Sunar, Bairagi Kainla, Keshav Man Shaky and Shambhu Thapa. All of them touched the heart of thousands who were present there. Khagendra Sangroula was simply the best in his sharp humour, witty remarks and presentation. The five cartoons hung around the Basantapur Dabli. One cartoon by Ramesh Bisht showed ?loktantra? kicking ?rajtantra? by the abyss. Batsayana?s cartoon showed poor man carrying Rolce Royace into the Royal Palace with a gun-toting armymen following him. ?Ek Yuga Ma Ek Din Ek Choti Aauncha? (One Day in an Age comes only once) by Ram Krishna Duwal made everybody clap in thunder. Bairagi Kainla likened present rule with a ?drama in which the king has played ?autocrat'?. ?Gaun Gaun Bata Utha? (Rise Up from Villages) by Ram Krishna Duwal, Ramesh and Rayan made everybody stand up and dance. Dhana Kumari Sunar said, ?this nation belongs to us, but not the state?. It is for us all to fight for change so that every dalit, janajati, woman and people from remote areas also can say with pride that this land belongs to all, she added. Keshav Man Shakya, a janajati activist, demanded that a new constitution be drafted through constituent assembly and that this ensure representation of Nepal?s diverse peoples in every institution it creates. Shambhu Thapa, president of Nepal Bar Association, asked the security forces and other government officials not to obey the ?orders of this unconstitutional rule?. There is no point in talking to the king, he said, adding that the political parties have to demand unconditional end of king?s rule. ?A new constitution that we will make will ensure supremacy of the people?, he argued.
