I agree with Hulaki. This is a disturbing trend. The vigilante forces should be discouraged. We need not look far to see what might go wrong. *The US trained the Talibans during the Soviet Occupation of Afghanistan to fight the Soviets but today the latter's US-supplied guns are turned squarely against the US soldiers in Afghanistan...and of course the Talibans' link with Al Qaeda is pretty well-established. *Same with the CIA-trained Khampas who turned against the Nepali locals of Mustang after the CIA stopped support [following Nixon's visit to China and resumption of US-China ties]. The Khambas were using Mustang as a base to fight the Chinese occupants of Tibet but later, once CIA support was not forthcomingt, they turned against the Nepali locals. The Royal Nepal army had to be deployed to take out the head of the Khampa Resistance group. *Same with US-supported Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war. The Nepali vigilante forces who today are being encouraged/supported by the government/RNA may someday turn against the latter or against their own people in their villages. If the news released by Amnesty International is true [and there is no reason to believe it is false, even though I have not seen it] then the vigilante forces have already started terrorizing the locals. May be this is convenient for the king and his govt: while the vigilantes take on the Maoists, the RNA and the govt forces can take on what's left of the democratic forces of the country. This tactic may very well backfire.
