As usual, I went to bed last night with lot of thoughts and worries about the prevailing situation in Nepal. Tried to tune in BBC Nepali programme and there was the news; gist of which was: "....About two lakhs people surrounded the periphery of Durbarmarg and Singhdurbar today. It was a march by a sea of humans, joining from all walks of life, demanding good governance, severe actions against corrupt people, and democracy. By evening, the number of demonstrators swelled even larger, and would not budge until the people?s government is announced, barring all those people who were associated in earlier governments and killings from either side. There was a firing from the army which killed and injured a few demonstrators. The sea of humans still would not budge. Then, finally the people?s victory was announced by midnight. There was an interim government formed in which excluded were all the known politicians from any party including Maobadis and royalists. An announcement was also followed that a new constitution will be drafted. It was truly a people?s victory....people have come out on the streets now to sing and dance to celebrate the victory...." To confirm this news, I switched to Radio Nepal where I heard the following news: "To carry on the success of the five-month rule of the Palace, the King has announced the appointment the Prime Minister whose name is Chamchanath Prasad Narayanjung Something whose first job will be to conduct a free and fair election under the guidance of the council formed by the Palace....." Cring?cring?cring?the phone call woke me up. It was five in the morning. The caller was a relative of mine. The bad news was that there was a blast in his neighbourhood and Maoists are suspected to have had on this blast. The news of the blast shattered my dream. How long can we continue to go to bed suspecting worse is about to happen tomorrow?. Nepalama, how long can we make you suffer????
