Concert 2005: big time sucks.

The banquet and concert were held at the same hall. Initially, the concert was supposed to start at 9:00 PM but it got moved to 10:00 PM. The plan was to end the banquet at 8:00 PM, allowing 2 hours for concert setup, which did not happen. The banquet did not wrap up until 8:30 - 8:45, allowing very minimal time for stage setup. Everything got rushed, audience was let inside after DB's sound check, at that time none of the other bands had a chance to setup their sounds, and they were not ready to perform. That is why each band had to test the sound right before they played. That could be intimidating to the audience but that was necessary to make the sound just a little better. All bands did their best under the circumstances that night. Without a good sound setup, even the best performers seem crappy. The concert hall was booked until 1:30 AM, and by the time the first band started it was already very late and everybody had to be rushed in order to finish off by 1:30 AM. Somebody decided to add the sports trophy distribution during the concert which took away several minutes. It was impossible to get every remaining band on stage and get done by 1:30, so the organizers bought another hour, until 2:30 AM from Marriott. That is the reason why bands were rushed in the beginning to wrap up quicker and bands that came on stage at the end had more time to perform. Deepak Bajracharya came to Dallas with his Keyboard player. I heard that the other band members were not able to get visas. He arrived just a few days before the show and they had to find musicians to fill in for the missing members. He did just that, practiced for few days and performed a great show. Musicians not familiar with DB's music, did their best and crunched as much as they could in few days of practice sessions. They managed to perfect all the songs that they practiced. My kudos to those guys. Another fact that added to the havoc was the lack of cooperation from DB's drummer (not the original drummer from DB's band). He refused to use the drums setup by ANA and he inisisted upon setting up his own drum kits. On top of that he did not allow other bands to use his drums. So, the sound system had to be setup on totally two different sets of channels. One for DB's band and another for the rest, which also added to the inconsistency in sound and took away a lot of time. There was really two different mixes setup for the entire concert and even though the sound engineers did their best, they forgot to close a few loop holes due to the lack of time. That resulted in less than a perfect sound mix. I am not trying to blame any individual or group, I am simply giving you information that you may not already have.
