Congratulations to the nominees, but I do find this news a bit odd. 1) The deadline for filing nominations for this year (for announcement in Oct and the award ceremony in Dec) has long passed. It was Feb 1. Why make these announcements (collected in 2004) now when the process of nomination for NEXT year has not even started? 2) The Prize Committee itself says that: "The nominators are strongly requested not to publish their proposals." Source: -http://www.nobel.no/eng_com_nom.html 3) It's NOT clear exactly who made these nominations. According to the Nobel Web site, only these entities are eligible to make nominations: Source: -http://www.nobel.no/eng_com_nom.html "Any one of the following persons is entitled to submit proposals: members of national assemblies and governments; members of international courts of law; university chancellors; university professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology; leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs; former Nobel Peace Prize laureates; board members of organisations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize; present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; (committee members must present their nomination at the latest at the first committee meeting after February 1); former advisers at the Norwegian Nobel Institute. Observing the rules given in the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, the Committee does not publish the names of candidates. " Like I said, this is an ODD piece of news. But hey, why spoil a fun thing, right? oohi ashu
