IndisGuise ji, another_nepali ji, highfly ji, et al. - I have NO intention of defending the activities of the Maoists. I can?t, period! All I am trying to do is to argue (1) the RNA ain?t that great either ? it is as brutal as the Maoists. (2) the Maoist problem that is plaguing Nepal is a political problem that requires political solution. If you label Maoists as terrorists then you are seeing them as a security problem that can ONLY be solved through brute force. But I do not think that there is a military solution to the current crisis in Nepal. I do however grant that military could have a role in pushing one side or the other to come to the negotiating table i.e. "war is politics by other means". My guess is that, among the Nepali nagariks visiting gbnc.org, more than 90% are from Kathmandu or smaller towns. Most of them have never set a foot in a Nepali village let alone know the harsh realities of today. As for me, as my name says, I am a ?gaule hero?. I was in a Nepali gau only a couple of months ago after a 1-1/2 years gap. The changes I saw during the intervening time weren?t pretty. It was bad 2 years ago, it is worse now. The RNA is confined to district headquarters and few major bazaars. The vast swathe of hills and river valleys are empty where Maoists have free reign. Once a student asked a finance professor ?if you are so smart, why aren?t you rich?. The same logic applies to the current crisis in Nepal. It is easier to make suggestions than to make things happen. We want the Maoists to lay down their arms and come to the political mainstream, we want Gyane to respect the constitution and rein his wayward, gunda son, and we want GK, Nepal, Deuba to be banished to Banarash and the political parties to bring in new leaders and to make solid commitment to political fair play and good governance. If these were to happen, won?t Nepal be wonderful!!!
