Somu, Almost all of your concerns are very valid and legitimate, and I hope the appropriate individuals would address them. However, here's my personal take on one of your querries with regards to why the pro-King demonstrators were allowed to take part in the rally. As proponents of freedom and democracy, I think it only does us good if we welcome ANYBODY to partake in our programs. As you saw, even one of the most hated personalities -- Sujata Koirala -- was present at the rally, although she was not given ANY prominence -- she attended the rally just like any other ordinary Nepalis. Likewise, the pro-King people had every right to voice their opinion in our program -- to have asked them to leave would have been the same as KingG shutting us up. In a very well articulated words of Sarahana of www.samudaya.org, "One would only hope that they [pro-King people] have appreciated and enjoyed the right to dissent and that they would continue to use?and eventually learn to love and realize the significance of?such freedom." You see, Somu, democracy is not only about freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of this or that -- if we are to be effective in democratizing the society, we must first liberalize ourselves internally. Only when we rid our minds with narrow cynicisms, and embrace openness and broaden our minds, can we begin to think of creating a free society.
