It's really depressing that all the pulchowkian's don't have anything better to talk about other than shyame ki sali, and gang fight. Ashu raised such an interesting question about the success of Pulchowk Campus in robotics, but nobody cared to say anything about it. It's so pathetic. Ashu, It's not true that Pulchowk is good only at robotics. It is just that there are competitions in robotics and that makes it more visible. You might have heard of this peace of news. The participating team from IOE Pulchowk Campus, Department of Electronics & Computer Engineering has been selected as one of the top ten finalists for the 5th annual CSIDC (Computer Society International Design Competition) organized by IEEE. CSIDC is an annual international computer-based system design competition. This year, teams were required to design a computer-based system that fits in with the theme Making the world a safer place. The team from IOE designed a system that detects imminent earthquakes and broadcasts warning signals, and also follows up on the status of potential victims through GPS and GIS technology. The final top ten teams were selected from 90 teams from around the world which, in turn, were selected from about 300 international teams. The competition will be held on June 26 and June 27 in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. I think we finished among the top tens in this competition. So, it's just that we need a platform to compete. Specifically, in case of Robotics, I heard that there is a really good professor in Mechanical Engineering Department who is guiding these robotics group. There is no doubt his guidance is invaluable, but I also belive that it is possible only because of the exceptional quality of the students. Given the teaching quality of Pulchowk, ( as 80% of classes are taught by BE's), these kind of success is unimaginable without those exceptional students. I heard that academic institutions multiply the capability of a student by some factor. This factor is very low for Pulchow Campus because of lack of resources, and specially lack of quality teachers. Even I got a chance to teach in Pulchow after completing my BE from there. Isn't that pathetic? 80% classes of the best engineering institution of our country are taught by a BE who does not have any experience as such outside of the text book. I just want to say that we can do way better than what we are doing right now. How?? May be we can discuss that here if the great minds of our country care to response. Jadau
