Lol indu jyu.. the teacher with bal sudhar isnt there anymore... anyway 1 more hai ta --------------------------------------------- Hmmm? after having talked about some of the incidents, let me talk about the common things that I had to deal with in school. Nepalis were known to be one of the laziest people in the school. Well, all the Indians would wash their clothes daily, but we (nepalis) let it accumulate till the end and would wash it every Sunday. As we only had one day off, and that was Sunday, we had no better thing to do than washing clothes (ya right!!). Saturday was a half day, where we had only 5 periods then we had to go for lunch and had a free afternoon. No games or study that day, and on Sunday we would get all day off, and we could do anything we wanted all day. Of course Sunday was the most boring and uneventful day of the week. But we would love Saturdays. So as the daily pile of dirty clothes increased, we HAD to wash them on Sunday. Every morning, we would get up, go to eat, come back- take a shower and wash the clothes. We did have a dhobhi bhaiya who would either tear up our clothes in fury, or never return it. That happened a few times, but we did not want to risk it. Plus in the middle hostel, where the 8th, 9th and 10th graders stayed, washing clothes by ourselves was a sign that we weren?t lazy asses. But when it came to Jeans, bed sheets and towels, we were a bit to weak to wash those in the 5 by 5 feet bathrooms, so they went to dhobi bhaiya. I still remember how once, I had discovered a cook bhaiya wearing my jeans (HE was the skinny one I swear I wasn?t that fat!!) and my baseball cap with another bhaiya (I wonder how that happened though:s). By the time I was in the 9th grade, I use to feel so uncomfortable with skirts that my mom started begging me to be a bit girlish But anyway my clothes washing routine was the main topic. So I would sit there with a bucket, mug, rin soap (which made all my white clothes blue), and a small cloth washing brush and wash off all my clothes. It took me anywhere around 1-3 hours. After washing all of them we would hang them in the hangers, so that when they were dry, we did not have to iron them. We were not allowed to have any iron with us and the dhobi did not come along too often. So to get our clothes to look good we had to brush it down like we were ironing it and then hang it on hanger. If our shirts were creased or did not looked like they were ironed, we would be the laughing stock of school. So to get all that sometimes I had to skip my Sunday lunch. The lunch was not good anyway, it had this fried rice, that to me smelled like grass (I wonder why everyone liked it so much!!). So once, what happened was that I was doing my regular Sunday routine of washing my clothes. I hear someone knocking on the bathroom door. I thought to myself that it was pretty strange because no one really disturbed us while we were washing clothes, and I open the door. And guess who was standing there? It was my mom!! I had totally forgotten that they were expected. There I was drenched in soap water and had these soapy hands and my mom was standing looking at me with confused eyes. For a moment I hesitated. Should I hug her with all the filthiness in me? and I decided that she didn?t care. All she wanted was to take her daughter in her arms. I still had about half an hour worth washing to do. My mo masked me what I was doing and when I showed her my pile her eyes grew WIDE!! But I convinced her that she should go to the guesthouse with my friends. She did go there, but I am sure she wondered that day if it was the right decision to send me to that school. And I am giving her the answer now.. she did the best thing to me by sending me to that school. I admit t hat it was tough, my hands would look like they were soaked in water all night and at times my legs would hurt when I had to wash the clothes in a sitting position. But nowadays whenever I open the washer to wash my clothes, I remember those times and think how easy it is to me now. I am sure I will never willingly wash clothes again, but it was quite an experience!!
