It would be interesting to see how this new papacy will effect the world. Nonetheless, I do find it interesting to learn more about the papal system, not only because it is the religion of more than a billion people on this planet, but also because it has been playing a pivotal role in our world's history and will continue doing so - more or less - in the future. And this particular pope is considered quite controversial, in a sense that he is very conservative in his views. Take for instance, we know from his past behaviour, he is: - anti abortion - anti stem cell research - anti contraceptive usage - anti homosexuality - anti gay marriage - anti idea of allowing women into priesthood (Jesus was a man, therefore) - anti progressive views of accepting other religious perspectives - anti idea of allowing priests to enter matrimony etc. etc. ... much to the consternation of us who have liberal or even moderate leanings when it comes to organized religion. Therefore, shall I say in tongue-in-cheek manner, it will be interesting to see how Pope Benedict XVI influences our world.
