How can we establish True Democracy in Nepal? Answer

Dear friends, What Maoists said and have been saying seems to be right, that is, as long as the King has Army at his disposal, Nepal will never see a true democracy. They therefore justify their arms struggle as a mean to overthrow the King and place the Army under the people's representative. No constitutional monarch in the world has a 'say' regarding the Army. The PM or president (people's representative) makes a decision regarding the national security and the Army. But our King does everything: deploy Army; appoint ambassadors and judges; promote and transfer beaurocrats and other officials; you name he does everything. He **cks out people's basic fundamental rights: freedom of speech, assembly, movement, press, and so on. What he doesn't do is however, he doesn't intervene in his supporters' activities; for example, they can stage rally in support of monarchy; they are allowed to write freely against, shout at, shoot at, ............ the opposition. He enjoys the self-claimed god-like status and become happy when his 'subjects' drink water that washed his feet. Is this true democracy? We have arrived at a juncture that now, we have to choose between 'being his subject' or 'being a peace-loving respected citizen of a liberal democratic society'. We are entered the 21st century of the modern world where technological and other advancement has 'given' us so much: the borders between states have become less important; we can share information anytime anywhere in the world; where knowledge and skills have become more important. In an informed modern soceity like this, the King's such behavior is unjustifiable and irresponsible. Year in year out, our sisters and brothers are getting more informed and knowledgeable. The frequent upheavals of changing politics has taught them a lesson. It is evident from the history they made: the Rana regime ruled for 104 years; the Panchayat ruled for 30 years; so called 'incomplete' democracy survived for 12 years.... it suggests that the struggle has taken shorter and shorter period for a change. Now, with all these experiences and the political knowledage that people have acquired, it can be hoped that 'true' democracy will take short span of time to flourish. While the international support and people's inspiration for true democracy are gaining momentum, the hatred and unpopular direct rule of the King is taking its toll towards decline. It's my personal view and all friends are invited to comment, add or criticise as they see fit. But one thing is true. That is, we, Nepali, living abroad must join hands together and support the way we can for our country's welfare, prosperity and development. Without true democracy, nothing will prevail. May B.S. 2062 bring all Nepali together on critical natinal issues. Thank you for your time. Also thanks to riru for placing such a debatable topic.
