Just heard from friends of friends that from Baisak 1 in Pokhara women are banned from wearing pants and men are banned from growing their hair long. I wonder what the local pop stars are going to do after the New Year. Not sure if this rule applies to other towns like Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Nepalgunj and Butwal. THIS IS F---- RIDICULOUS. With the country facing so many challenges, local authorities are busying themselves with petty stuff - this is very reminiscent of the panchayat regime. With the police and the army busy silencing political parties and ensuring "public decency" who the F--- is going to fight the Maoists. It is ironic that while the feudal king of Bhutan is slowly democratizing his country, the feudal regime in Nepal is doing the opposite - trying to bring the medieval social/political order in the 21st century.
