Maoist students to close down higher secondary schools The Maoist-aligned All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) has announced to force all private higher secondary schools around the country to closure from next year (2062 B.S). Radio reports Sunday said the recent central committee meeting of the ANNISU-R in Dang district decided this. ANNISU-R chairman Lekhnath Neupane speaking to journalists at an unidentified location in Pyuthan district today announced that his organisation was against the privatisation of the education sector and that it would launch an aggressive campaign to close down all 1o+2 (higher secondary) schools, reports said. Neupane said the ANNISU-R would initiate a pressure campaign at the first phase and an action-oriented campaign to close down, once and for all, all higher secondary schools around the country. ?Those in rural areas will be closed first. We will start pressure campaign to close the +2 schools in urban areas,? reports quoted him as saying. The rebel students, however, did not make any mention about the outcome if the schools were closed down nor did they make clear how the losses would be replenished. They only said that they were against the commercialisation of education. Neupane, reports said, also said that the educational strike by the ANNISU-R in Mechi and Koshi zones that is in place since last two weeks would end very soon. nepalnews.com mbk Jan 30 05 Down with Maoism and their student wings.
