In the olden days Canada surely used a bait of free farm lands in Prarries. For many immgrants who had no land or possessions in their own country, it was a great offer. At least in Canada, they got acres of land free where they could work on it and start something to make a living for themselves and generations to come. For many of them it worked out well and for few it didnt work out that well. At large it was a fair deal. Which country and its people was ready to let total strangers swamp into their country, give them free land and accept them and their children as a part of thier society. Most countries didnt even let any foreigners to set foot into their country (dont even imagine about giving total foreigners any free land). The most important part is the fact that Canada didnt bring any of these immigrants to Canada by force, the immigrants themselves made the choice of comming into Canada and give a try into a new country, a new society and a fresh begining in return Canada got chance topopulate its thinly populated vast sized country. A fair deal I believe. In the modern times, until the times of Pierre Trudeau, yellow skins (Chinese) and Brown skins(south Asians) were mostly discouraged or worse not allowed into the country. I should be grateful that Pierre Trudeau was a visionairy and changed such discriminatory immigration policies therefore I can be here giving me a chance to give my shot at new life into new country and new society. I'm a newcomer I dont expect anyone to set up a job readymade for me nor is anybody responsible to find a great job of my choice ready just for me. I have to work myself up towards prosperity with resources and help that I would have had never gotten in Nepal or the United States (there is no such thing as HRDC in the US, forget about even funding a career related training by the US givt). I work with college and university grads and up coming grads with my current job in Toronto , and almost all of them volunteered or do crappy jobs before they find god jobs in their related field. Many of of them did jobs totally unrelated to their field of study at college or university just to work their way to find better jobs (I tell you, Lisa is a grad of McMaster university and she is volunteering at a social service organization for over a year in hoping to find a better job ) . Despite being Canadian born, I found that their experience was and is not much different than immigrants. The only advantage they have is that fact they can dialute themselves into the mainstream white society much quicker and much deeper than immigrants while they have great disadvantage when dealing with large non-white social groups from outside of Canada. I would be disgusted to hear if some immigrant would expect to find a quick fix the next week or the next month they arrive into Canada with Master's degree in Chemical Engineering with no mindset of Canadian society. I certainly know that Canadian immigration laws are more favourable for immigrants when compared to the immigration laws of western european countries and the US, that doesnt mean Canadian govt is showcasing itself as ultimate destiny of immigrants with quick fix. It's the immigrants who have to do the careful research about if their expectations would be fully realized here or not. At the end of the day, its the immigrants(not Canada) who makes the decison if she/he will want to come here or not. In fact, immigrants now have over 200 countries across athe world to choose from where they can go and settle down permenantly. Why choose Canada ? I dont see how Canada is making a great amount of money from immigrants. Currently Canada has a target of bringing in estimated 2,50,000 (two hundred fifty thosand) immigrants eah year and could not meet the target. Canada failed to bring 2,50,000 in the year 2003. By the way how mcuh does it cost to the govt to offer all the public services (which they would have never gotten in their native country) to the each immigrants each year ?
