The court has also slapped a fine of over Rs.19 million on Chaturbedi and ordered the confiscation of his property worth over Rs.10 million. The court verdict came in response to a case filed by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA)?an anti-corruption watchdog. The CIAA has maintained that Chaturbedi has deposited his ill-gotten money at various Nepali and Indian banks. The Special court said that of over Rs. 20 million worth of property owned by Chaturbedi, he could furnish proof of only Rs. 6.7 million as having earned through legal sources. The Court said Chaturvedi had Rs. 10.11 million deposited at various banks in India and has ordered to confiscate them. In a case filed in February last year, CIAA charged Chaturbedi of amassing nearly Rs. 69 million through illegal means while he held several public positions including managing director of the state-owned National Construction Company Nepal and Nepal Oil Corporation.
