The Trump administration is a literal circus. Bad news of losing a war, fraud, or something stupid comes out almost everyday.
Republicans and Elon Musk have touted many times the optimism and success for DOGE to save $2 trillion and ending inflation.
The GAO finds that DOGE wrongly claimed credit for over 96% of its reported savings that never happened, wrongly claimed it cancelled 9 dozen leases, and 2,000 government contracts (these were never ended).
The GAO also found the transparency claimed by Musk that every savings would be posted on X and the DOGE website to be “maximally transparent”, in Musks’s words, were false. The GOA found that “DOGE did not use its stated methodology to calculate the majority of savings associated with the contracts reported as terminated”.
The GAO’s report states the only thing DOGE was good at was prematurely celebrating things it was never able to accomplish.
The GAO’s recommendation to the president is to post these errors and corrections on DOGE’s website to inform the American people.
