The Anti-Balen Media
First of all, let us congratulate our old school media wallahs for suddenly waking up from a three-decades-long slumber! Today, our media wallahs are busy digging up tiny details of our ministers and the PM, and every action they take is scrutinized to the moon and back!
If these media vultures had done their job well in the past three decades, then maybe we would have had a government that believes in transparency, accountability, and integrity. When our old school major political parties talked about zero tolerance against corruption, these same media were busy clapping while engaging in extortion and even chiya kharcha from those in power then.
Today, when this government wants to focus on meritocracy, good governance, and the end of the loot system, our media is busy slapping them with stories calling this 100-day-old government a total failure. And our Supreme Court needs to be congratulated as well for trying to block all government initiatives to punish those who have looted us all for the past two decades.
When a few cars were parked outside our media houses, these patrakars were up in arms and acted like this was the end of freedom of speech and free press. When the government wanted to stop all government advertisements from private media, they filed a petition in the court, and the court decided to side with our media sahujis.
When the government decided to take action against illegal settlements not only along the Bagmati river but all over the country, the media and the opposition wallahs branded this government as anti-poor and anti-landless and whatnot. But when the same Congress, UML, Maoist (CUM) mili-juli sarkars decided to allow their vote banks to build illegal structures in government land, our media remained silent.
When those who suffer from financial stress and think they have no option but to take their own lives, then it is the fault of this new government. But the media never talks about the loot system that enriched only the hakims, netas and jholeys for the past two decades, which forced 5 million youth to go overseas for a better future.
Our media wallahs want to remind us that the country was doing just fine until the Gen Z protests happened. They blame the young ones for burning key government buildings in the capital and call it foreign interference. The opposition wallahs blame the foreigners for RSP getting the majority of the seats in the House. I guess they fail to realize that the voters are all Nepali citizens and not some foreign stooges like the same old netas of the old parties.
Our media wallahs want this government to fail. They would rather have the mili-juli same old loot governments of the past because they made tons of dough from extortion, could evade taxes, and not be held accountable for fake news. Yes, the media should report the facts and make sure this government is held accountable, but at the same time, what do we do with the governments of the past that engaged in corruption, murders of innocent citizens and protesters and bled this country dry?
