There is nothing illegal about refusing admission to the GC Holders if they have a criminal history and CBP deemed them inadmissible. You need to understand that only US citizens cannot be deported.
When you arrive at the border from international travel, your status is arriving alien and you do not have right to guaranteed admission unless you're a US citizen.
CBP has the authority to revoke green card as well as any other visa if they determine the arriving alien is inadmissible under INA.
These are extraordinary times, so the best advice that the lawyer can give you is do not travel unless it's a life or death situation.
What does Real ID have to do with this situation? You can travel domestically with your passport as well if you have one. You don't need real ID at the airport!
