Today's Chatpat: September 21st, 2023

1. Our government school teachers are all out on strike, disrupting traffic in the Maitighar-New Baneshwor area since yesterday. As usual, they have their own set of demands and are against the new Education bill registered in the parliament. They don't like it when the government thinks that one needs to have a Bachelor's degree to teach our primary-level kids and a Master's degree for secondary school students.

More than 1.6 lakhs public school teachers have decided to stop teaching the kids at our public schools. More than 5.4 million students are suffering due to the protests by the teachers. Most of the teachers appointed at our public schools are affiliated to major political parties and they get paid mostly for either being absent or engaging in political activities rather than providing a good education for our kids.

2. WHO had banned numerous antibiotics a few years ago. Our government has finally woken up and has decided to follow the WHO protocol but according to media reports, our Pharma byaparis have stock worth more than 100 crores and will somehow find a way to sell it in the market because the fine is minimal and monitoring is very lax when it comes to our government agencies.

3. Our Army Chief is going to India as he is a special invitee from the Indian Army to hang out at the US-Indo Security Pact conclave. It is very surprising that the US and India has banded together to a security pact in hopes of countering China's aggressive push in the region. India continues to buy Russian oil and weapons while the US continues to fund the Pakistani military and Ukraine as well. I guess, A friend of an enemy is a friend if he happens to be an enemy of another enemy.

4. As Gold prices hit the roof every other day, Kathmandu is facing robberies and chain-snatching at broad daylight by criminal elements. As many neighborhoods now have CCTVs, most petty criminals are caught sooner or later while political criminals either get pardon by our President or the case becomes so weak that our courts find them innocent even though the whole world knows that they are guilty.

5. Champions League is in full swing. Bayern Munich had a thrilling game against Manchester United, winning 4-3 at home. Arsenal are forging ahead as well. Manchester United has one of the highest salaries in the Premier League but this United team is not that united and is more than likely to qualify for Europa League next year or go further down the table by the end of the season.
