Today's Chatpat: September 18th, 2023

1. Happy Teej to all our women out there. Lot of stories in the media about how Teej has taken a vulgar turn but it seems that people want to judge our women for their own all-women party. Why is it a problem when our women dance to the latest trending songs and perform dance moves they seem to enjoy? Let our women have fun at least once a year because men seem to have fun every weekends.

2. Kathmandu Metropolitan City has fined Tip Top, a favorite haunt for Samosas and sweets for ages. KMC fined Tip Top Rs 2 lakhs. The municipal authorities have said that Tip Top was storing raw materials without the expiry dates and some of its sweets were not fit for human consumption. Most of the sweet shops in the valley offer adulterated products, some expired and most not fit for consumption at all.

3. The US and Iran have agreed to release five prisoners each and the US government will unfreeze US$6 billion held in South Korea since 2018. The five American prisoners are expected to be flown to Qatar from Tehran and then to the United States.

4. Little Kim, the North Korean leader is done with his vacation in Russia. He is returning home in his armored-train with gifts from Putin ranging from bulletproof vests to drones. North Korea is always threatening its neighbors with long-raise missiles laced with nukes. Will the Kim dynasty last in 2050 or will it have yet another authoritarian government of North Korean elites backed by China?

5. Nepali students who went abroad for studies in the past one year spent more than US$1 billion while we make not even half of that from tourism. More than 1.4 million youth have left the country in the past two years for job opportunities abroad. As usual, it's the manpower agencies, the education consultancies and relevant government ministries and agencies who seem to make money from our students and migrant workers.
