Are you really a PHD student? You are saying you have no publications so far? I was of idea you need to have some decent publications/ research/ peer-reviewed work etc. to even apply for PHD right? And you then saying choosing topic is a challenge? What agendas/ motives did you show to your school when applying for PHD? And then you are asking help from anybody who is completing PHD? Here in Sajha? Really? When we all know every PHD dissertation is uniquely different and every PHD student knows what they intend to do, you are here talking as if a recently enrolled undergrad student who cannot decide his or her major and just studying some useless general education courses.
And you are saying there is only one and half years left and you still could not decide what is your goal of doing PHD. I had a room mate once (international student from Egypt) who was doing masters in Electrical engineering and he was crystal clear with what he wants to do for his PHD and was already chosen by his professors for his PHD candidacy too. His professors liked him so much and they were even helping him out of college, like paying visit to apartment, or giving him help regarding apartment search, getting stipend for him etc. I had never seen anything like this before.
And here you are talking like you are lost in a vision. I am sorry to know about your health conditions, but isn't it that most of the PHDs are all well sponsored by the school itself? It's a free ride right? I have not seen or heard anybody paying out of his pocket to finance his or her PHD. May be I am wrong but, besides your health, is money the problem of you saying that staying in F1 status is extremely difficult?
Please correct me if my understanding is wrong. Because to me again you sound like a case of baloney like that guy 'H1Bseeker' who started that thread on H1B fraud going on.
He lit the fire there, but looks like his motive is else, just to get people talk and waste their time.
Seriously, It has been difficult to trust people with their intents these days...Oh my!
