I would imagine 'dalli' was suggesting about donating the money generated by organizing such an event. I agree with your spirit 'bedrock', but then wot about 100s of benefit concerts, charity shows (fashion, dance ect), and many other entertainment programs. As long a the intention is good, and does not violet human spirit it should be fine. The spirit is NOT to make merry and dance around on Tsunami victim's plight, but to generate some money to donate for a great cause. I am certain, as long as every dollar generated would help them (Tsunami victims) with some food, some clothing, some medecine or just about anything, it doesn't count if the money came from ones private pocket or from attending any events.
