This is VTEN, one of the most popular rappers of Nepal. 

The 24 year old rapper was born in Rautahat district of Nepal when the Nepalese rap genre did not even exist. Today he is a leading figure in the Nepalese Rap scene. His popularity came with unorthodox songs that did not go with mainstream music. With songs promoting marijuana and use of obscenety in his music, he gained lot more crowd because people were tired of fake music where everything was just nice and good. 

VTEN, real name is Samir Ghising. He had moved to Kathmandu with his uncle to be in the Tibetan painting business of Thanka. He learnt a lot about Thanka painting and was even able to send some of his income to his parents. During this time he was in high school and not doing well in studies. After failing twice, he dropped out of high school and was even kicked out by his uncle. VTEN enjoyed playing basketball and hanging out with friends. After the 2015 earthquake he went back to Rautahat to check in with his family. When he came back he looked for jobs painting Thankas. During this period, there were many new rappers in Kathmandu such as Girish, Uniq poet, etc. One day he ended up recording a random rap video called 'Psycho dai' which was shared in youtube and facebook. This was his turning point as it became an instant hit. This led him to rap on e-Kantipur live video and other invitations to gigs. In this way, he started winning hearts and his songs were being applauded for being realistic and showing true struggle of common people. 

In 2019, he was arrested by the Nepal Police for promoting marijuana in his song wearing a Police uniform. In addition the police made him delete his song 'hami yestai ta ho ni bro' which had a lot of vulgar content. These police interceptions made him even more popular as his listeners were supportive of freedom of speech. 

At a young age of 24, he is undoubtedly one of the most popular Nepalese artist among the Nepalese youth. VTEN has already had major international tours in countries like Korea, Australia, Japan, UK, UAE, Bhutan and Sikkim, where he was heavily welcomed and cherished. VTEN has definitely become a rising star in the world of Nepalese Rap.
