Just because you think that most people will not elect Bernie you will not support Bernie? That is not a very good reason to not support him.
Actually that is a very good reason not to support Bernie. For me the main (and only policy) is to beat Trump and I genuinely believe he is the least likely candidate to beat Trump.

In many successful countries like switzerland, denmark, sweden, norway, canada, etc, they are free college, free medical facilities, all funded by citizens tax money. That does not make those country socialist countries.
You forget to add our country Nepal where college in government universities (like many SUCCESSFUL countries you mentioned above) is almost free. Free education does not mean every single person will go to college or make a country successful, also isn't community college almost free in US?  Why not start there if you really want education?  I do however think the cost of US higher education system is high and something should be done for that.  You should also know nothing is free, let that be free college, free healthcare etc.  I'm okay with my health care but I do understand that there are about 8-10% who don't have.  Let's do something for those 8-10% rather than destroying everyone's.
Also, ever notice that US is always #1 destination compared to your list of SUCCESSFUL countries for many students and immigrants. Wonder why?
I've a cousin who lives in one of your successful country. He is more educated and have better experience than me yet can't afford a 3 bedroom condo(forget buying house) or can buy a car. You would be surprise how racist those countries are towards brown people. No thanks to that kind of SUCCESS.

I don't think Bernie has made any undue extreme socialist promises. If you think he has, let me know so we can discuss.
Free College, Free Healthcare for everyone including illegal immigrant (I'm okay but majority voters will not be). Plus he has declined to answer the cost for it. He can get away in friendly democrat primary but Trump and republican will destroy him on this. Again electability.

Just because thing were done wrong in the past does not mean you cannot move forward with better policies now. Slavery was legal before. People paid money to buy slaves. Would you say it's not fair for those people who paid for slaves to abolish slavery?
Abolishing slavery <> Socialism.
