Brother AX.. Notre Dame didn't lose against either of the team from Michigan. THey beat Michigan (28-20) on Sept. 11 <9/11>), and beat MIchigan State (31-24) in the following week. Of course, they lost with similar scores against both Purdue and USC. And THey also dropped all of their games against these four in the year 2003 to end up with a losing season (5-7). I like Notre Dame but I am not a huge fan. For some reasons, their games are on local tv all the time, SO I get to watch them. What a sad demise of Tyrone Willingham? I had felt that he will be on the HOT Seat after couple of unsuccessfull seasons (relatively speaking). yEt, I never thought he will be fired this early. ANd he won't even be on the sidelines in the INSIGHT Bowl either (prolly against California). IF he were to get out of the Notre Dame football program I thought it will be only under his own will. Actually, I were impressed by him, when he were taking all the blames for himself. Well.... coaching job just gets tougher. COaches are always the scapegoats in any sporting programs. Every year, a team expected to do good or better ends up with a mediocre record the coaches are under the radar. I didn't like Dave Wannsdet (Doplhins coach) being sacked by Miami earlier in the season. Even after the RIcky Williams saga (he is the one to blame), and the injuries to the QBS... the COach got fired. Last season, the DOlphins had a healthy squad, and of course RIcky Williams was playing, and they had a winning record (10-6), but came off short in the WILD Card chase. THis season, THE Dolphins don't have their most productive weapons. Yes they are going to have a losing season for the first time in some 16 years, but I don't think Dave Wannstedt was the one to blame. YEt he got fired. Now, we have TYrone Willingham jobless before the end of the football season. COach Williamgham is partly accountable for the UND's miserable football seasons, but the WHole Athletic department (the HEADS) is more responsible in my opinion. I believe, their football program didn't simply put enough effort in recruiting new (better) athletes. IT has been years before UND had sent any athletes in the NFL first ROund drafts. Bob Davie got sacked after ending the 2001 season with 5-6 record despite a successful 2000 season (9-3). I can't say much about him because he had four seasons with the UND football program. He was a great coach. But the dismal season of 2001 was costly for him. However, I agree with AX and lots of other football enthusiasts when they say TYrone Willingham didn't get enough opportunity. Yes, like BOB Davie, Willingham had a great 2002 season (10-3) followed by a disappointing 2003 season (5-7), when his team failed to qualify for the BOWL game. Actually, UND suffered 2 losing seasons in 3 years (2001, 2003). 2001 wasn't under Tyrone anyways. This year, The FIghting IRish are going to the Insight Bowl (the Athletes might refuse!!), and have a winning record (6-5). BY their standards it'a sad season. Yet, 3 seasons aren't enough to judge a coach with the Talent like that of Tyrone Willingham. 2002 was successful, but to keep up with similar records, you need similar talents in the rooster as well. COach Willingham didn't have enough tools to work with. Yet, he was the one to get sacked first. I don't feel sorry for him. I know he will end up with a decent football program to prove his worth again. I haven't heard about Willingham and Washington connection yet. But, I believe that will be a good place for him to go. WIth a 1-10 record this season, the HUskies need some serious coaching change. Besides,Willingham is familiar with some of the opponents in PAC 10. Esp. USC. And, there aren't too many Great Football teams in the present in that conference. Well, except for California and USC. I am surprised by BuTch Davis's decision. He said to peter King of CNN (si) that he is staying out of active football in the year 2005. OTherwise, what would have been a better place than FOlrida for him. Since, he is out of the equation, Maybe, Tyrone Willingham can find some interest from the Gators. It's unlikely. Yet, I won't mind him seeing in Florida. Seems like Meyer is bound to Notre Dame. He is familiar with the ORganization. I believe the FIghting IRish's organization and Meyer are having discussions around this time. Meyer is definitely a HOT prospect for their program, but is he goinng to get the job done?? If not he is going to end like his precessedors. I also think, NOTre Dame organization are doing things in Haste. I am sure by the end of the year (also the end of NFL season), there will be plenty of coaches to chose from. As of Callahan and the Nebarska football. What about giving him second chance and possibly 3rd? That way the organization can get more used to his system. IT might work. What goes for Willingham should also go for Callahan. I know most of the folks in Sajha won't like this idea. But as a neutral fan, I am of the opinion Callahan should get second opporunity.
