I'm doing my 4 yr BBA in Nepal and I expect to graduate in less than a year with 3.5+ GPA. My husband is in gradschool in USA (PhD in medical field). I want to go to US as his dependent after I graduate. But I don't want to just sit and do nothing. I want to know if I can get a job or continue my studies with my BBA degree from Nepal.
I have a few questions I hope to get answer from sajhaites who have experience/kowledge about this:
1. Can my BBA degree get me a job?
2. Can I do MBA or other similar programs with my BBA degree from Nepal?
3. If yes, how much does it usually cost? How does the application process work? Any chances of getting a scholarship?
3. What do I need to do and how long will it take to change my status from F-2 to F-1 once I enter US?

Thanks a lot!

ONLY 4 YRS BBA WILL NOT ENOUGH FOR US UNIVERSITY TO GIVE ADMISSION FOR INTERNATIONAL SRUDENT. I WAS ON SAME BOAT WITH 3.8 GPA BUT I HAVE TO GO 1 YR UNDER GRAD HERE. IT WAS NOT THAT BAD THOUGH AT LEAST IN ONE YR I GET THE UNDER GRAD DEGREE FROM US UNIVERSITY TOO. ONCE YOU WILL DONE WITH THIS YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE WORRY FOR GMAT AND ALL THE STUFFS. IF ANY UNIVERSITY WILL GIVE YOU CHANCE TO ENROLL IN GRAD PEOGRAM YOU NEED TO HAVE GMAT TOO. SO GOOD LUCK

--In order to get into a top-notch MBA school, you will need a lot of job experience(3-5) years. And many top ranked MBA schools, which are too damn expensive, do NOT provide any funding. So if your husband has a good job and income, may be you can try applying to these schools :)

--You can also apply to some lower tier MBA schools that are relatively easier to get into.

--You definitely need to take the GMAT to get into a decent MBA program in the USA.It does not matter where your undergraduate degree is from, you definitely need to take the GMAT. Some non-accredited universities may not ask for the GMAT, but there's no use in pursuing a degree from such schools.

--You can learn more about GMAT and gradaute studies in business at www.mba.com

--It will be tough to find a job here with a BBA from Nepal.

--If not MBA, you can join programs like MS/PhD in Accounting, Finance, MIS or other business related fields. Students in these programs usually get scholarships/fundings compared to MBA program. But the scholarship depends upon your undergrad GPA, GMAT score, personal statement and other factors.

--Regarding VISA switch, I have heard that you have to do some paperwork to switch from F-2 to F-1 and vice versa.

thanks for your inpur champ and chi-sigma
i've another question for chi-sigma, do you know how long MS/PhD degrees are? is the length similar to MBA? and what kins of career opportunities can I get by doing one of those degrees?

also, insights from anyone who has experience in F2 to F1 status change would be greatly appreciated.

Ya sure you are a guy. your sajha history gives that hint.

PhD, huh? nice !

Isnt 'Googling' part of your research? Coz it might have helped in your questions 3 and 3 (is it 3b?)

In context: Sorry OP, I dont have any answers for you. but..
What are the career options for 'MBA' grad from mediuocre university in Europe with 'not so good' grades. Do grades matter?

googling is a part of research but what you find on google is not always 100% true - you need to tweak the protocols you get from google to suit your project needs. same with my third question - i want to hear about how people did theirs.

IMO,
  • Better to ask your husband and/or special friends in US. Also, one is not allowed to work in dependent visa.
  • US is land of opportunites, only if you have confidence over yourself and have strong communication skill. At present it is tough but possible with deliberate effort.
  • Status change becomes easier only if your husband has green card. I think you have sound knowledge so better go for student visa if possible.
