Quick overview on “Sherpa Cultural Center”:

For over a decade, Nepalese from different communities have been trying to build a community center that could be used for various cultural and other purposes from birthdays to wedding and other events that occurs in life. That dream is finally becoming a reality with “Sherpa Cultural Center”. Once built or bought, the cultural center will benefit not only Sherpas but all the Nepali communities in New York and will be a major accomplishment for all the Nepalese living in New York. If we look around us, most of the other nationalities have their own community centers or place where they can go to when need arises. This culture center can be a pride for all the Nepalese in New York in that sense.

This program is not only to raise funds for “Sherpa Cultural Center” but also to raise awareness of this wonderful project to other communities

Hi there,

Pardon me if I am making myself but I have to make a comment regarding the building being called "Sherpa Cultural Center", though I am not in the US and I see that the name of the building will not in anyway impede the use by other "jats", I am really curious why do you call it - "Sherpa Cultural Center"

Will it be used partially as a center for housing Sherpa related books, artifats and etc ?
Why do you not call it "Nepal Cultural Center" ?

My understanding, by what you wrote above ..."
For over a decade, Nepalese from different communities have been trying to build a community center.."  there will be many buildings coming up in the near future for Newar, Magar, Gurung, Rai, Limbu and etc.

Regards,
Rai ( DUMI)

From what we know, the building is built by the funds that is being raised by the Sherpas of New York. Sherpas who are interested in this project are donating $5000.00 and other amounts to help fund this project. And you are correct, this building will house Statues of different Buddhist Gods, lot of other buddhist artifacts and will have a hall for all the other needs. And as you said, "the building will not in anyway impede the use by other "jats".
As of "Music n' Masti Event", we are only trying to raise awareness of this wonderful project to the world to show that "Impossible is Nothing". If people comes together, anything is possible.
So, let's not argue over the name and work on making this world a better place to live.
