Hey guys, HERE's THE CASE .... NEED YOUR ANSWER ... My H1 will be approved in October and my wife is in F1 status. Her class will be over in December. We are planning to visit Nepal for about a month in January. Here're the questions : i. Where should I get my H1B stampped from ? Nepal or some other places like MEXICO or Canada ? ii. What is the best possible scenario for my wife's status to return from Nepal. Although she will have OPT card in her hand, she will not be employed within a month of completion of her study. Shall we change her status from F1 to H4 ? Which is the best and risk-free way ? your answers are highly appreciated. Thanks, Sabkobhalohos.....

If u leave ur wife on f1 status then she wouldnt be able to come back to the country without sevis. So u need to change ur wife's status to h4 visa, which is dependent of h1 visa and both of u will have to get stamped for h1, h4 visa here or in nepal, whichever u choose. If u dont want to put ur wife as ur dependent then she will have to extend her I 20, extend as in extend her semester.

best option is to change your wife's status to H4. and get your H1 stamped here. Dont take any risks by going to nepal without your H1 visa stamped. good luck. ;)

now you don't have to go to out of country to get your visa renewed. however, i have been to mexico, and it's very easy there. if you're closer to candada, you could go there.

I don't know aobut mexico but to go to canada, you need a visa. Apply to canadian consular office in buffalo,NY. Here is the link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/sites/index.html I believe the visitor visa costs $75. For F1, you will have to get back of i-20 signed before you leave US.
