Still, their communist vision _ such as abolishing private property _ resonates deeply in Nepal, where per capita income is $25 a month and many toil as farmers for feudal landlords.
To speak with Maoists like Yadav is to step into a world where the greats of communism _ Marx, Lenin and Mao _ have been joined by the Nepalese rebels' leader, the secretive Prachanda.
"After we are victorious there will be an ideological war," Yadav said. Nepalis "will have to acquire a new type of education."
Some "will undergo even labor camps to be educated," he said.
After that, Yadav and other Maoists are more circumspect. There's talk of equality for all in a deeply traditional Hindu country where caste still matters and of puritanical measures, such as banning Indian films that show too much skin.
