Foreign Hands

For two decades, our corrupt political trio, Oli, Prachanda, and Deuba, aka OPD, practiced the 'bedroom' form of international relations while the country's secrets were sold to the highest bidder. Instead of foreign embassy offices or official buildings, the real geopolitical natakas happened right in their bedrooms while they were comfortable in their lungis and kurtas!

The most powerful person in our land then was the Indian Ambassador, who didn't just have a free pass to Baluwatar or our government offices but straight into the kitchen of our old school corrupt netas to ensure that their dal bhat had the right amount of salt rightfully aligned with Delhi's interests.

While our so-called triple chors were signing way deals over late-night raksi and chiya, the Foreign Ministry was clueless and only focused on selling passports and wondering why the server was slow. And our Foreign Ministers were busy asking for kickbacks from foreign companies printing our passports!

It's funny that the whole of Kathmandu knew that the RAW agents from across the border were moving around freely, meeting our byaparis, civil servants and netas in five-star hotels over samosas and momo. Our so-called media remained silent then because they too were under the payroll of our foreign Embassies, mainly the Chinese and the Indians!

Our sarkari hakims were busy selling our national secrets and internal policy drafts to foreign hands in exchange for chiya kharcha or scholarships for their kids or just some gold bars to be stashed away in some vault in Hong Kong or Dubai. The foreign spies spent millions of dollars on black ops and surveillance, but they seemed to forget that our so-called thulo mancheys could easily be bought for a few boras of cash and they would spill all the coffee beans!

While those in power shared our secrets with foreign hands, our own intelligence apparatus and diplomatic corps remained beautifully clueless and ignorant. Our intelligence folks were too busy wiretapping rival political factions or tracking someone for their Facebook post on Oli, Deuba, or Prachanda.

Now, the secret bedroom meetings and chiya at five-star hotels have finally come to an end. Our government has come out with the 'Integrity Policy' and from now on wards, any politician wanting to talk to foreign hands must formally ask our Foreign Ministry for permission, and the National Vigilance Center has been tasked with monitoring all the natak with foreigners.

This new policy will finally force our foreign ambassadors to do what ordinary Nepalis have done for centuries. Wait in a long, suffocating queue at a government office, fill out three copies of this form or that, and wait for a joint secretary to finish his lunch break and then if the Foreign Ministry approves then have a meeting without any gifts or chiya kharcha!
