I heard green card holders through asylum are not eligible for citizenship naturalization process. Please check it.

Did they change the rule ?

Typically it requires 5 years in green card status before you can apply for citizenship (3 years via marriage). Asylums with GC holders can apply for citizenship after having GC for 4 years.

Hello Ark, where you got that information from? I do not see any such provision in uscis website otherthan 3 and 5 yrs rule. I know, once one is granted asylum , they have to wait one year to apply for greencard and when they get greencard, it will be dated one year back compensating the year one wait to apply for greencard. are you talking about that ? or , I can apply after 4 year from the date i have on my greencard? can you share ur experience in detail? thanks.

Dhoti you wrong. Sgautam1 its 5 yr from issue date of your GC. But you can apply 3 month prrior. So 4 yr 9 month

@sgautam1 The one year one waits as asylum to get the GC will be counted toward 5 year requirement. Regarding the processing time, it does not matter whether you apply through asylum gc or any other types of GC, it's the same processing times.
